Why A Nursing Student Goes MBA | #FlexPath MBA Journey

Disclaimer: I’m an actual Capella student compensated for posting about my experience at Capella. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Alright, I am entering my second online course (Business Strategy) in the MBA program with FlexPath at Capella University, and I'm learning so much. My initial course was Leadership, and I earned a “Distinguished” rating on the competencies in this course (there are no letter grades with FlexPath). As stated earlier, I received my MSN in nursing practice from another university in May 2018. During my previous education, I received little training regarding business leadership and management (it was only one course). Note, MSN nursing practice programs vary, and this is my personal experience. My MSN program was practice-based and was focused on clinical and disease management. I had a pleasant experience but, wanted a more formal business education. As my long-term goal is to operate my own clinic. I wanted that same level of depth regarding business management.

The business curriculum is the main reason why I chose Capella. The assignments aren't based on conversation or trends. The topics at Capella University are based on evidence-based business concepts and algorithms. The professors provide you with dedicated, world-renowned resources such as the Harvard Business Review. As a nurse, this curriculum touched my heart because, as you know, medicine is evidence-based. We don't do things simply because they sound good. There is an abundance of research which generates protocols and nursing initiatives. It's refreshing to know that Capella University respects that approach and maintains that level of professionalism and analysis.

Another reason I chose Capella University was that my friend, Kati Kleber is pursuing her MSN with FlexPath and thriving. I'm Florida, born and raised. Florida, in my opinion, is filled with transient people and tourists. I love it, but I also know the type of people who I live around. There are many scams out there. I'm not a trusting person. So, when Kati recommended Capella University, I did my research and made sure their business program was legit. Capella University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Several programs have earned specialized accreditation from agencies such as the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. For my nursing folks out there, did you know that Capella’s BSN, MSN, and DNP degree programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education? Yes, it is legit, and this school won't be closed in a month. There are so many schools out there to choose from. I wanted to pick one that had the right goods. Capella didn't disappoint.

As stated before, I passed one class already. My goal is to finish my MBA in a year. I'm learning so much and using the skills I learn at work and in my personal life. You don't know what you don't know. I take my education, and I wanted to invest in it wholeheartedly. Capella University was my choice, and I haven't regretted making it. Knowledge is a powerful tool. When done right, it unlocks many hidden skills. I've learned so much about myself as a nurse and how to communicate my needs in my MBA program. I think that has to do with Capella and their learning format, FlexPath. Learning at my pace, my education and life can be balanced without a struggle.
