Enterotoxigenic escherichia coli (aka traveler’s diarrhea) causes profuse watery diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramps, tenesmus, malaise and anorexia. Fever is notably absent. Symptoms typically resolve over 3-4 days without intervention.
