Category: Fundamentals Atelectasis refers to collapse of a lung or portion of the lung with resorption of air from the alveoli. This can result from an obstructing bronchial lesion, extrinsic compression (pleural effusions), fibrosis, or a loss of surface tension in the alveoli.
